History of the Park
Clifton Park is located in East Baltimore,, Maryland bounded by Erdman Avenue on the
north, Sinclair Lane on the south, Harford Road on the west and Belair Road
bounds the east.
It was originally purchased by Henry Thompson in 1799 and named Clifton after
his former home in England.
Thompson sold Clifton in 1823 (or1835) to Daniel Cobb, but the mortgage was defaulted.
Clifton was purchased by Johns Hopkins at auction from the heirs of Henry Thompson in
1838.

Purchased by the City of Baltimore from the Hopkins Estate in 1895. It
remains the property of the City of Baltimore under the management of the
Department of Recreation and Parks.
